Che twangs a mean Jew’s Harp

Che(rrywood) McCarthy

Cherrywood is descended from a long line of English eccentrics each of whom took their first name from the London area telephone exchanges, Cherrywood being a Fulham exchange. This being the era of mechanical telephony, the first 3 digits were letters of the alphabet so hence the abbreviation  to CHE.

A Big Dar Boogie performance,

‘Ello, ello, wotz all viz teknoligie then!

Michael Saunders today, as vibrant as ever and just as good a bloke!

As Mick Saunders in  an earlier life, Che had always nurtured political idealism and counted amongst his heroes, Fidel Castro, Chairman Mao, Eric the Boneless and the Bolivian revolutionary Earnest Entwistle, however as none of these had a telephone exchange named after them, Mick chose the unknown fruit and veg salesman of Clapham, Che Guevera as inspiration for his first name, fused with another  ‘left wing’ hero’s surname: Senator Joe McCarthy (an early sample of the Pants’ ironic sense of humour that so confused their American fans).

STOP PRESS

Great News pop-pickers, Cherrywood has re-surfaced, found hiding in the Message Board  of a football club’s website. No-one knows how long he’s been there or how he survived for 38 years but this is surely as miraculous as the second-coming.
