The Band Members
Rock Carnaby
Comparable with Lennon & McCartney, Jagger & Richards, Steven Sondheim and Roger Whittaker, Rock WAS The Dirty Pants Band.
A bon viveur and famous society wit, Rock was also a sensitive poet and truly brilliant songsmith. Furthermore he was (and most likely, still is), the country’s foremost expert on Browns, Blues, Soul and MoTown, being a leading Northern Soul DJ from the days when the term DJ meant rather more than nicking other artists copyright and re-sampling it to make millions. No, it meant that the DJ had to actually take his record collection to a gig and lower the tonearm onto the vinyl, then get up and dance a bit!
Rock was a mod boy (as indeed were the other band members in the earlier 1960s) and he was particularly partial to a bit of Atlantic, Stax, MoTown as well as Reggae and of course the Blues. The image on the Looking for Rock page came from a recent find on a Northern Soul forum. We remembered that he always liked that sort of thing and it is known that in the early 80s he had been DJ’ing on that circuit.
More better chosen eulogies will later appear but your author is too emotionally overwrought to continue at this juncture at remembering this tortured genius.
A true artist!
